Having a disability does not mean that you are more likely to have a fire or receive an injury in the event of a fire but it is important that you have working smoke alarms, a bedtime routine and a fire action plan.
SYFR can complete a free Home Safety Check, ensure that you have working smoke alarms and go through important fire safety advice.
SYFR fit specialist smoke alarms for those who cannot hear a standard alarm. A Home Safety Check needs to be completed first and a referral will be made on your behalf if required.
Any people who require oxygen in the home will be offered a Home Safety Check and we work in partnership with oxygen suppliers to ensure that you are given the right safety information regarding fire.
Tip: It is important that you have a safe room in your property so that if you cannot not escape in the event of a fire you can wait for the fire service to arrive, this should have a door that closes fully, a window that opens for fresh air and a telephone, whether this is a mobile or a landline, to contact 999. This tends to be your bedroom as according to FireKills.gov most domestic house fires occur between 10pm and 8am.
