Man treated for smoke inhalation after Doncaster chip pan fire

Firefighters from Doncaster were called to reports of a house fire on Park Road, Instoneville at 10.55pm last night (Monday 8 July).

Upon arrival they found that the fire, which had started in an oven, was already extinguished – however one man was suffering from smoke inhalation after putting it out himself.

It is understood the fire started in a chip pan which had been left inside the oven, by accident, and then switched on.

The crew used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke, and left around 11.27am.

Following the incident the service is issuing two pieces of advice:

  • Do not attempt to fight a fire yourself – get out, stay out and call 999
  • Be careful when cooking and ditch the chip pans – go for oven chips instead
