Candle sparks bedroom fire

Three fire engines were called to a house fire on Thursday evening just after 8:30pm on Old Hall Mews in Bramley, Rotherham.

Fire crews from Maltby, Rotherham and Edlington arrived to find the occupant already out of the house.  The fire was in a bedroom and is believed to have started due to a candle.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to put the fire out which was contained to the bedroom area.

The woman occupant was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The fire crews left the scene at 11:50pm.

Firefighters are reminding people of the basic safety measures when using candles:

  • Don’t leave lit candles unattended in a room
  • Keep candles and tea lights in propber holders and well away from anything that could catch fire, like curtains
  • Keep candles, matches and lighters well away from children.
