Crews attend two house fires overnight

Firefighters from Adwick and Doncaster stations were called to a property on Latin Gardens in Scawsby, Doncaster at 10:15pm on Tuesday night.

Crews entered the property and found smoke inside due to burnt food in the microwave.  An elderly man suffered smoke inhalation.

The second house fire was on Ribble Way in Sheffield with Elm Lane and Rivelin stations attending at 5:50am on Wednesday morning.

A waste paper bin was on fire in the house which is believed to have been caused by smoking materials.  All occupants were already safely outside when crews arrived.

Cigarettes and smoking material are a major cause in house fires, firefighters are urging residents to follow a few simple tips to help them keep safe in their home:

  • If you smoke, don’t light up if you need to lie down. You could easily fall asleep, setting the bed or couch on fire.
  • Make sure cigarettes are properly out before being disposed of.
  • Keep matches and lighters away from children.
