Crews respond to flat fire incident in Maltby

On 2 February at 7:33pm, crews from Maltby, Rotherham, Edlington and Aston Park Green Watch attended an incident on Barbaras Close in Maltby, Rotherham. The incident involved a fire outside a block of flats which contained two floors.

Maltby crews were first to arrive on scene and upon arrival found that the fire had spread into the foyer area and first floor flat.

Using breathing apparatus and hose reels, firefighters were able to successfully extinguish the fire and rescue the four occupants within the building.

Fire control operators remained on the phone to occupants within the building throughout. By providing important fire survival advice, occupants were quickly guided to a place of safety in which they could reach fresh air. This allowed crews to rescue the occupants safely and quickly away from the building using ladders.

At 8:13pm, the fire had been extinguished.

Four fire engines attended the incident.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause.
