Garden fire spreads to shed in high winds

A Rotherham resident set fire to their shed and trees after lighting a chiminea in gale force winds.

Despite a Yellow Weather Warning for high winds in Yorkshire in Sunday, the occupier of the house on Hall Close Avenue, Whiston chose to have a fire in their garden at around 7pm.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident, which was quickly dealt with by a crew from Rotherham fire station.

“You should always be careful to site garden fires well away from buildings and trees- but in high winds it’s probably an even better idea not to have the fire at all”, Station Manager Spencer Rowland said.
