Large fire at Doncaster industrial unit

Over 40 firefighters are currently at a fire at an industrial unit in the Hexthorpe area of Doncaster.

The blaze is contained to one premises and residents in the local area are being advised to keep windows and doors closed.

There have been no casualties but surrounding premises have been evacuated as a precaution.

Fire crews were called to Albion Terrace around 8:10am this morning and it is likely they will remain in attendance for most of the day.

The fire may cause some disruption to train travel through the Doncaster area, so are we urging people to check their routes before travelling.

We are working with partners from South Yorkshire Police, Doncaster Council and the Environment Agency to manage the incident, further updates will be provided throughout the day.

Update at 2pm

Firefighters have a significant number of hose lines in to the premises tackling the blaze.

Fire crews are protecting the surrounding buildings but as there is still a dark smoke plume, officers are urging residents in the Hexthorpe and Doncaster areas to remain inside and keep all windows and doors closed.

Due to the close proximity of the train line to this incident, commuters travelling through Doncaster may suffer some disruption and should check their route before travelling.

Update at 3:45pm

The fire is now under control with firefighters damping down, the number of fire engines at the scene is in the process of being reduced.

The smoke has now died down in the area so the train line has re-opened.

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for the next few hours.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once the fire is completely out.
