Five fire crews were called to a large scarp yard fire at 7:15 on Monday morning.
Fire engines from Elm Lane, Darnall, Rotherham and Tankersley stations attended the fire on Grange Mill Lane.
A large number of scrap cars were well alight when crews arrived. Firefighters used foam to tackle the blaze which was quickly contained.
Firefighters will remain at the scene for most of the day damping down.
There are no reports of any injuries to anyone and there are currently no road closures in place.
An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once the fire is completely out.
