Loud bangs heared across Shafton during farm fire

Loud bangs could be heared across Shafton, Barnsley last night (Monday 18 February).

Crews from Cudworth, Barnsley and South Kirby (West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service) were called to a farm on Hawthorne Street at 5.25pm.

Upon arrival they found around 100 square metres worth of pallets and gas bottles on fire, close to an electricity pylon.

The fire did not spread to the pylon but was situated just underneath the electricity cables.

Firefighters contained it, extinguished the fire and then used jets to cool down the cylinders – a number of which exploded during the course of the incident, causing loud bangs that could be heard across the area.

The incident was dealt with by 6.40pm and nobody was injured.
