Smoke alarms alert neighbours to kitchen fire

Neighbours helped to save a man from a house fire in Sheffield after hearing his smoke alarms going off.

The fire started on Deerlands Avenue at around 9.20pm on Friday (21 October).

A man was inside the property and was woken by the neighbours. It’s thought that a chip pan caused the fire.

Central and Rivelin firefighters were called to the incident, but the fire was already out on arrival.

Firefighters have again called for people to ditch chip pans and to use oven chips instead.

Smoke alarms should be fitted on every level of your house and tested regularly.
