Students evacuated after flats fire in Sheffield

Up to 100 students have been evacuated from flats in Sheffield following a fire.

The blaze started in a plant room at the flats on Sharman Court, Broad Lane.

Six fire engines were initially sent to the incident, although that number has now been reduced.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the fire using hose reels and are now ventilating the building.

The students who have been evacuated are being housed at the nearby Croft House community centre.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and the fire service expects to be on site until around 4pm.
