Weekend incidents – 18 to 20 September

Friday 18 September

Firefighters from Birley Moor and Aston Park were called to Shortbrook Drive, Sheffield, at 11.34pm. Upon arrival they found a fire in a bin store, with a large metal bin and its contents well alight. This was dealt with by 0.03am and is thought to have started accidentally.

Saturday 19 September

Firefighters from Adwick were called to Hanover Street, Thurnscoe, at 8.02pm. Upon arrival they found a garden fire that had started to spread to a garage and other outbuilding. This was dealt with by 8.32pm, caused some damage to the nearby windows and guttering, and is thought to have started accidentally by a garden brazier.

Firefighters from Lowedges were called to Lowedges Road, Sheffield, at 10.39pm. Upon arrival they found a car well alight with the fire starting within the engine compartment. This was dealt with by 11pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Central were called to Archer Lane, Sheffield, at 11.06pm. Upon arrival they found a row of fencing and conifers well alight, approximately 10 metres long and affecting four properties. This was dealt with by 0.29am and is thought to have started with an unattended garden bonfire.

Sunday 20 September

Firefighters from Central and Rivelin were called to a care home on Common Side, Sheffield, at 11.33am. Upon arrival they found a fire had been extinguished with a fire extinguisher. This was a fire in an oven that started when some oil in a tray set light due to overheating. They left the scene at 12.16pm.

Firefighters from Birley Moor, Aston Park and Parkway were called to a flat on Tannery Close, Sheffield, at 12.07pm. Upon arrival they found a fire in a bedroom that was well alight. The fire started with a candle that had been placed on top of a wardrobe, radiating heat onto the ceiling and down onto a box of clothes. This was dealt with by 1pm.

Firefighters from Birley Moor were called to a property on Seagrave Road, Sheffield, at 1.35pm. Upon arrival they found no fire but an oven that had short circuited and started smoking. This was due to water overflowing from a pan on the hob getting into the electrics. Crews left the scene at 2pm.
