Weekend incidents – 23/24/25/26/27 December

Friday 23 December

Firefighters from Central and Parkway were called to Ventnor Place, Sheffield, at 6.26pm. Upon arrival they found sparks coming from the top of a house chimney. The service’s turntable ladder was used to extinguish the fire from the chimney pot. This was dealt with by 7.24pm and is thought to have been accidental in nature.

Saturday 24 December

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to Tennyson Road, Herringthorpe, at 2.35am. Upon arrival they found petrol had been poured onto a VW Golf and set alight. This was dealt with by 2.56am and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Dearne were called to Birdwell Road, Kilnhurst, at 7.16pm. Upon arrival they found a small Vauxhall Van that had its rear window broken and a high-vis jacket set alight inside. This was dealt with by 7.39pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Parkway  were called to Widdop Close, Sheffield, at 7.45pm. Upon arrival they found a car well alight in some woods. This was dealt with by 8.40pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Sunday 25 December

Firefighters from Thorne were called to Fieldside, Thorne, at 10.27am. Upon arrival they found a chimney fire. Crews attacked the fire from above, through the grate, and it was dealt with by 11.37am. This was thought to have been accidental in nature.

Firefighters from Aston Park were called to Walesmoor Avenue, Kiveton Park, at 5.13pm. Upon arrival they found a shed well alight, with the fire having spread from an unattended bonfire. This was dealt with by 6.18pm and was accidental in nature.

Firefighters from Doncaster, Adwick and Edlington were called to Alexandra Road, Balby, at 7.41pm. Upon arrival they found smoke issuing from the ground floor window of a property. Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to extinguish the fire and ensure nobody was inside. Nobody was inside, or injured. This was dealt with by 10.32pm and the cause remains under investigation.

Monday 26 December

Firefighters from Dearne and Rotherham were called to York Gardens, West Melton, at 12.49pm. Upon arrival they found a developing kitchen fire. This was dealt with by 1.17pm and, thanks to the swift action of crews, didn’t spread beyond the cooker. Nobody was injured and the fire is thought to have started accidentally, through distraction.
