Barnsley bedroom fire sparks ‘hair straightener’ warning

A family had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a set of hair straighteners, which had been left on, set fire to a pile of clothes in a Barnsley bedroom.

Crews from Barnsley, Cudworth and Tankersley were called to the incident on Masons Way, Kendray, at 11.49pm on Saturday evening (29 September).

Breathing apparatus wearers entered the house but the fire hadn’t spread beyond the room of origin – with the occupants having been alerted by working smoke alarms.

The incident had been dealt with by 0.33am on Sunday 30 September – with a male occupant having to be taken to hospital due to sustaining burns to his foot.
