A student flat had to be evacuated after cooking was left in the oven and caught fire in Sheffield.

Central and Rivelin firefighters responded to the incident at Central Quay, Alma Street just before 5am on Tuesday (2 October).

The blaze was out on arrival, but crews used specialist equipment to ventilate the flat, which had already been evacuated safely.

Officers say the incident offers a stark warning about the dangers of cooking late at night.
