Crews attend two cooking related fires overnight

Firefighters were called to two cooking related fires overnight.

At 2:30am on Friday morning four fire crews attended a ground floor flat on Club Garden Road in Sheffield.  A pan had been left on the cooker and there was a lot of smoke in the property.  A woman (50’s) was lead to safety.

Just a few moment later three fire engines were called to a bungalow on Memoir Grove in the New Rossington area of Doncaster where a chip pan was on fire and had spread to the kitchen.  When crews arrived an elderly man was already outside.  The man was taken by ambulance to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters are asking residents to take care while cooking and to follow a few simple tips:

  • Don’t leave cooking unattended and never use chip pans or pans filled with hot oil
  • Oven gloves, tea towels, cardboard and electric leads are kept well away from the hob
  • Ovens and grill pans should be free from grease and crubs, as these can easily catch fire
