Firefighters at an incident

Hotel evacuated after cellar fire

A Rotherham hotel had to be evacuated after a drinks chiller caught fire.

Firefighters attended the Fitzwilliam Arms on Taylors Lane at around 11.15pm on Saturday (26 September).

The crews from Rotherham, Elm Lane and Parkway fire stations entered the building wearing breathing apparatus to search for the source of the fire, which was found to be the cellar.

The cellar was heavily smoke logged but the fire was quickly put out using a hose reel. Crews then used specialist ventilation equipment to clear the smoke.

In the meantime the venue’s guests were quickly evacuated and no one was hurt in the incident.

Firefighters left the scene shortly before 1am.
