Man found dead following Rotherham house fire

Enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding a fatal house fire in the Dinnington area of Rotherham.

Emergency services were called at around 1.40am today (Wednesday 8 April) following reports of a house fire at a property in Meadow Street, Dinnington.

The body of a man was found inside the property. While he has not yet been formally identified, officers believe the man to be 66-year-old Robert Walton.

Extensive investigations have been carried out today at the scene by South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire and the death.

The investigation is in its early stages but at this time, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

A forensic post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out this evening.
