Five fire engines have been tackling a blaze at a scrapyard in Royston overnight.

Firefighters from Cudworth, Barnsley, Dearne, Tankersley and Rotherham stations were called to the fire on Boulder Bridge Lane just after 10:30pm on Tuesday night.

Fire crews spent a number of hours tackling the several tonnes of aluminum which were on fire.

As at 8am (Wednesday) one fire crew remains at the scene damping down.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once it is completely out.
