Weekend incidents 15/17 August 2025

Friday

Crews attended a wild fire at Wharncliffe Woods, off Manchester Road, Stocksbridge after a call was received at 5.28pm. Five fire engines attended initially but over the course of the incident sixteen different fire engines attended alongside a water carrier from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue and two wildfire units. The fire involved between two and four kilometres of woodland and was extinguished using main jets and a wildfire hose. Crews came away at around 7.30pm on Saturday but further inspections continued until Sunday morning to ensure the fire was completely out.

Three fire engines attended a fire involving 300 square metres of woodland near The Avenue, Bentley, Doncaster after a call was recevied at 6.10pm. Hose reels were used to extinguish the fire which was fully out by 8.11pm.

Two fire engines attended a fire in a field between Wordsworth Avenue, Dryden Road and Southey Green Road in Sheffield after a call was received at 6.50pm. The fire involved a large area of tall grassland, brushes, hedge rows and trees on fire located on scrub land. A mixture of hose reels, wildfire hose beaters, backpacks were used to extinguish the fire which had been dealt with by 9.38pm.

Saturday

Three fire engines attended a fire involving approximately 50 tonnes of recycling waste material inside a large storage unit after a call was received at 10.28am. One hose reel and one main jet were used to extinguish the fire whilst on-site machinery was used to remove waste to outside of the building in where crews used a hose reel to damp down and fully extinguish the waste material. The incident had been dealt with by 12.26pm.

Three fire engines attended a road traffic collision involving a bus and a car on Doncaster Road, Darfield, Barnsley after a call was received at 1.34pm. One man was extricated from the car by crews using cutting gear and left in the hands of paramedics. Firefighters left the scene shortly after 2.42pm.

Two fire engines attended a fire in woodland next to a track on Bradberry Balk Lane, Wombwell, Barnsley after a call was received at 1.51pm. The fire was extinguished using beaters and backpacks, a  hose reel and a wildfire hose. Remnants of campfire and tools were found near the middle of the burnt area. The incident had been dealt with by 4:49pm.

Two fire engines attended a caravan fire on Coronach Way, New Rossington after a call was received at 9.45pm. One hose reel used to extinguish the fire which destroyed the caravan and spread to a nearby fence. The incident had been dealt with by 10.25pm.
