Blaze at old Barnsley nightclub

Update – 19 August at 8:30am

Two fire engines from Central and Tankersley stations remain at the scene damping down. West Ways Close still remains closed between Alhambra and Town End roudabounts.

A structural engineer will be assessing the building this morning.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and an investigation will take place once the fire is completely out.

Eight fire engines are currently at the old Chicago Rock nightclub on New Street in Barnsley.

Firefighters were called at 5:20am on Thursday morning.  The large disused building is well alight.

Crews are currently tacking the blaze.

Fire crews are asking people to try and avoid the area if possible as West Ways Close is fully closed between the Alhambra roundabout and Town End roundabout.
