Overnight fire crews have attended two camp fires.
The first was at 7:35pm on Bingham Park Road, Sheffield while the second one was at 9:20pm on Addison Road in Maltby, Rotherham.
Small camp fires may seem harmless but in this hot and dry weather they have the potential to get out of control and spread quickly.
The service yesterday, Monday 22 July, launched its ‘Do Your Bit’ campaign to tie in with the six-week holidays – which figures show is prime time for these types of fire.
As part of the campaign fire officers are asking people to be extra careful with barbeques, hold off on garden bonfires and camp fires and take specific action to reduce the risk of arson in their areas.
Key advice to the public is:
•Don’t leave wheelie bins out overnight and keep gardens and streets free of rubbish
•Don’t have bonfires/camp fires during warm weather and be careful with disposable barbeques – not just when using them but when binning them too
•Report arson to the police and speak to your kids about the dangers of fire-setting
