Crews remain on scene at incident in Austerfield

Several crews from South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue have been dealing with a large scale incident overnight on Newington Road in Austerfield, Doncaster.

After receiving a number of calls through to our control room, crews were mobilised to the incident at 4:06pm yesterday (29 August 2019) and seven pumps were quickly on scene.

When we arrived, we found a number of sheds in a yard in close proximity to each other well alight. Crews did extremely well to keep this fire contained to these buildings and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby property, stables and a barn full of straw. They also evacuated a number of horses and we are pleased to say they are all safe and well. No one has been injured.

At present, there is no smoke in the area but Newington Road still remains closed. Officers are expecting it to be reopened around midday and thank all local residents for their cooperation in keeping windows and doors closed throughout the night.

Presence on scene is now scaling down, but firefighters are expected to remain there for the majority of the day.

A fire investigation will commence to determine the cause of the fire once it is fully out.
