Fire crews attend farm fire

Four crews from Cudworth, Dearne, Tankersley and Barnsley attended a fire at a farm on Barnsley Road in Cudworth last night (15 May). Firefighters were called at around 7:30pm.

When the crews arrived, the roof of a barn was well alight. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire using hose reels.

Several pigs survived the blaze but unfortunately a number of them have died in the incident. There was also extensive damage to the barn.

Firefighters began to damp down at around 9:35pm and crews and officers eventually began to leave the incident at midnight.

Officers are working alongside South Yorkshire Police to investigate the incident, which is currently believed to be deliberate.

Anyone with any information that may relate to the incident is asked to report it via 101 quoting incident number 861 of 15 May. Anonymous information can also be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
