A bungalow has been badly damaged following a fire on Haythorne Way in the Swinton area of Rotherham.

Firefighters were called to the property at 2:20pm on Thursday.  At the height of the incident five fire engines from Doncaster, Dearne, Rotherham, Edlington and Maltby stations were at the scene.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to tackle the fire.  The adjoining bungalows were evacuated during the incident.

The roof of the building was on fire with concerns for the neighbouring properties, the firefighters worked hard to prevent the spread of fire.

Firefighters left the scene around 8pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
