Three fire engines from Adwick, Askern and Doncaster stations were called to a house fire on Milton Road in Carcroft, Doncaster at 9.30am on Monday morning.
All occupants had been out when the fire started, a woman had returned home and discovered the fire, and managed to get the two family dogs safely outside, however, a tarantula had already died in the incident.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to tackle the fire, which was contained in a bedroom.
The Fire Emergency Support Service, which is run by the Red Cross also attended the incident to offer support and advice to the family.
Early indications show that this was an accidental fire, however the investigation is still ongoing.
