Three fire engines from Doncaster and Maltby stations were called out to reports of a flat fire on High Street in Bawtry, Doncaster at 12:30am on Monday.
The fire was in a first floor flat above a shop. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked quickly to prevent the fire spreading to the shop and other flats.
The occupants had gone out and returned to discover the fire which is believed to have started accidentaly due to an iron.
Fire crews left the scene at 3:15am.
