Houses evacuated in Grimethorpe

About 40 properties have been evacuated in Barnsley whilst firefighters cool a gas cylinder involved in a fire on Nancy Road, Grimethorpe.

The fire broke out in a domestic garage at around 1.30pm.

Two fire engines remain on the scene, using hose reels to cool the cylinder and make the scene safe.

Nancy Road and Cross Street are closed as a precaution.

Officers will use thermal imaging cameras to assess the safety of the cylinder, before removing a safety cordon which has been put in place.
