A man had to be rescued from the River Don after a van was set alight in Rotherham.

The removals van was torched at around 00.30am on Sunday on Effingham Street in the town.

A man was seen running away from the incident, jumped into the river but was stranded had to be helped out again by firefighters and police.

Rotherham firefighters eventually left the incident just before 2am.
