Smoke alarms alert resident to kitchen fire

On 14 August at 8:50am, crews from Elm Lane and Central were called to an incident on Owler Lane, Sheffield.

On arrival, they were met by the occupant who had self evacuated after being alerted to the fire by their smoke alarms. Firefighters entered the property and tackled the blaze, which had been caused by a faulty extractor hood on the oven.

Luckily there were no injuries – this is a reminder of the importance of having working smoking alarms fitted in your property.
