Three die in Rotherham collision

Three women have suffered fatal injuries following a three vehicle collision in Maltby yesterday  evening (Thursday, 26 November).

At around 5.30pm, the women were traveling in a red Toyota Aygo along Tickhill Road in the direction towards Maltby.

At the same time, a man driving a black Ford Focus was traveling in the opposite direction on Tickhill Road, away from Maltby and towards Tickhill.

Close to the entrance with Maltby colliery, the two cars and a van, believed to have been leaving the colliery, were involved in a collision.

The female driver of the Aygo, aged 58-years-old, and the two female passengers in the car (66 and 76), all sustained fatal injuries.

The driver of the Focus, aged 28-years-old, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The male driver of the van was not injured.

Fire engines from Edlington, Rotherham and Maltby stations attended the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 913 of 26 November 2015.
