Two people were treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire in Stannington.
The blaze broke out at around 10.30pm on Wood Lane in a house which did not have smoke alarms.
999 operators gave survival advice to the pair, a man and a woman in their 50s until crews from Central and Rivelin stations arrived.
One person was rescued from an upstairs bedroom suffering from severe smoke inhalation. The other was led to safety having attempted a rescue.
Both casualties were treated for smoke inhalation. One was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
