Weekend incidents – 20/21/22 May

Friday 20 May

Firefighters from Rivelin, Lowedges, Rotherham and Parkway were called to a derelict block of flats on Wordsworth Avenue, Sheffield, at 4.20pm. Upon arrival they found a fire in a second floor flat. Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire. Crews left at 6.04pm and this is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Birley Moor and Maltby were called to the M1 Southbound at Junction 32, where a car had set fire on the sliproad to the M18. This involved a car that was smoking which subsequently set alight when the driver pulled up. This was dealt with by 5.44pm.

Firefighters from Tankersley were called to Carr Head Road, Howbrook, at 9.27pm. Upon arrival they found a small van well alight in a field. This was dealt with by 10.13pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Saturday 21 May

Firefighters from Central and Elm Lane were called to Margate Drive, Sheffield, at 7.06pm. Upon arrival they found a load of rubbish alight in the communal area of a three storey block of flats. This caused heavy smoke logging throughout the building. This was dealt with by 11.32pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Barnsley were called to Baycliff Close, Monk Bretton, at 11.20pm. Upon arrival they found two oil drums in a garden well alight. This was dealt with by 0.01am and is thought to have been started deliberately.

Sunday 22 May

Firefighters from Maltby and Aston Park were called to Flanderwell Avenue, Bramley, at 7.26pm. Upon arrival they found smoke issuing from a kitchen window. This was cooking that had been left unattended whilst the occupier slept. The occupier was helped out of the property and the food was removed from the grill. No firefighting action was taken. This was dealt with by 8.05pm.
