Weekend incidents – 3/4/5 September

Saturday 4 September

Firefighters from Rotherham and Parkway were called to Barden Crescent, Brinsworth, at 3.42am. Upon arrival they found an oil pan had been left on the stove, whilst the occupier fell asleep. This was out on arrival and nobody was injured. Crews left the scene at 4.33am after offering advice to the resident on safe cooking and the use of hot oil pans.

Firefighters from Rivelin, Central and Elm Lane were called to Penrith Road, Sheffield, at 1.02pm. Upon arrival they found a kitchen well alight. The occupier had been cooking in a gas oven when the fire started within the oven and spread into the wall and neighbouring kitchen units. The family were able to self-evacuate upon discovering the fire, which was out by 2.47pm.

Firefighters from Maltby and Rotherham were called to Park Road, East Dene, at 4.43pm. Upon arrival they found a mattress on fire in a first floor bedroom. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house to extinguish the fire. Crews also provided the occupant, who had self-rescued, with oxygen therapy. This was dealt with by 6.18pm.

Firefighters from Elm Lane were called to Edge Lane, Sheffield, at 10.04pm. Upon arrival they found a car well alight. This was dealt with by 10.45pm and is thought to have started deliberately.

Firefighters from Maltby were called to Rotherham Road, Maltby, at 10.15pm. Upon arrival they found a car well alight. This is believed to have been a result of a road traffic collision in which the car hit a tree before setting alight. This was dealt with by 11pm.

Sunday 5 September

Firefighters from Barnsley and Cudworth were called to Newtown Avenue, Royston, at 1.55pm. Upon arrival they found a small cooker fire that had started when the grill heated leftover oil and food debris within the oven door, causing lots of smoke. This was dealt with by 2.35pm.

Firefighters from Central, Parkway and Birley Moor were called to Jaunty Way, Sheffield, at 2.50pm. Upon arrival they found a cooker fire that had started when an accumulation of oil and fat underneath the oven caught fire. This was dealt with by 3.31pm.
