Weekend incidents 9 to 11 April 2021

Wooden floor boards were set alight in a derelict house on Rainton Road, Hyde Park, Doncaster. Firefighters from Doncaster and Edlington fire station used hose reels to extinguish the blaze shortly after 7pm on Friday (9 April).

An unattended chip pan caught fire on Winston Avenue in Sheffield shortly before 4am on Saturday morning. An older man was inside the property at the time, but was not injured and the fire was already out when firefighters from Stocksbridge fire station arrived.

A Volvo was set alight on Dearne Hall Road, Low Barugh, Barnsley shortly before 7am on Saturday. Barnsley firefighters dealt with the incident.

Clothes on top of a cooker ignited when a hob was accidentally switched on at a house on Wright Crescent in Wombwell. Dearne, Tankersley and Cudworth firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel to put out the fire, which started at around 11am on Saturday.

A moped was set alight in a skate park on Chestnut Avenue, Carcroft at around 3pm on Saturday. Adwick firefighters responded to the incident.

A garden incinerator toppled over and ignited a neighbours shed. The fire on Craven Court in Grimethorpe started at around 8pm on Saturday and was dealt with by Cudworth firefighters.

An industrial freezer caught fire at a residential care home on Sandygate, Wath-upon-Dearne shortly before 1am on Sunday morning. Firefighters from Rotherham and Dearne fire stations responded, using a fire extinguisher to tackle the blaze which caused some damage to the room the freezer was in. Most residents were not evacuated.

An electric blanket caught fire at a property on Hathersage Road at around 4.20am on Sunday morning. Lowedges and Central firefighters responded to the fire, which was out on arrival.

Firefighters responded to an incident involving a bonfire of large amounts of mixed waste which got out of control on Denby Way, Maltby. Maltby fire station extinguished the fire at around 11am.

A tent in some woods was set alight on Cemetery Road, Barnsley at around 11.54am on Sunday. Cudworth firefighters responded.

Maltby, Aston Park and Rotherham firefighters dealt with a fire in a disused building on Scarsdale Street at around 5.30pm on Sunday. It’s thought the fire was started deliberately.
