Woman alerted to fire in her Sheffield flat

A woman was alerted to a fire in her flat this weekend thanks to working smoke alarms.

Crews from Parkway and Aston Park were called to reports of a fire at a property on Victoria Road, Beigton, at 8.24am on Saturday 17 November.

Upon arrival they found the fire was out thanks to quick thinking from the occupier who, despite being upstairs, was notified of the fire by her smoke alarms.

The life-saving devices, which meant this fire never spread beyond the fuse box where it started, had been fitted by SYFR a number of years ago and in this case worked exactly as they should have.

Our staff will visit homes where occupants are seen to be at risk of fire and, where appropriate, can fit free smoke alarms. If you feel that you would benefit from a visit, have a look at our ‘book a safety visit page’.
