Dog rescued in house fire

Firefighters were called to a house fire on Northern Avenue in Sheffield at 12:15am on Friday morning.

Three fire crews from Parkway, Birley Moor and Lowedges stations attended the incident.

On arrival the occupants, a family of six, were all already out of the building.

However, a dog and hamster were still inside.  Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house and rescued the animals.  Unfortunately the hamster died but the dog was given oxygen by the crews and is believed to have made a full recovery.

Firefighters used hose reels to put the fire out which was on the ground floor.

Fire crews left the scene at 02:10am.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will now take place.
