Man led to safety following flat fire

A man has been led to safety by firefighters after a fire broke out in his kitchen due to a pan left on the cooker.

Three fire crews from Rotherham and Dearne stations were called to the flat on Greenfield Road in East Herringthorpe, Rotherham just after 9pm on Tuesday night.

The man suffered slight smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and left the incident at 10pm.

Tips to help prevent kitchen fires:

  • Make sure oven gloves, tea towels, cardboard and electric leads are well away from the hob
  • Ovens and grill pans should be free from grease and crumbs, as these can easily catch fire
  • Don’t leave cooking unattended and never use chip pans or pans filled with hot oil
  • Don’t drink and cook
