Smoke alarms raise alarm at three separate kitchen fires

Smoke alarms raised the alarm and helped three people escape kitchen fires safely.

All of the fires happened within half an hour of each other across South Yorkshire on Saturday (12 March) evening.

The incidents were:

  • Duchess Road, Sheffield at around 5.35pm- a woman in her 30s fell asleep with a pan on the hob which then caught fire. The woman was taken to hospital for a precautionary check up
  • Braithwell Court, Bentley at around 5.40pm- a woman became distracted with a pan on the hob. Smoke alarms raised the alarm and the blaze was out when the fire service arrived
  • Fulwood Road, Sheffield at around 6pm- a woman in her 90s left a pan of potatoes on the hob which boiled dry and caught fire filling her kitchen with smoke. She was in the living room and smoke alarms raised the alarm, helping her to escape safely

You should have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and test them regularly.
