Wharncliffe Woods fire

Update – 03.06.2020 – 8:30am

The fire at Wharncliffe Woods is now under control.

Firefighters have made great progress overnight, helped by the change in weather. However, there are still  some deep seated areas of fire which they are still tackling.

Five fire engines are currently at the scene but this will be reduced to two shortly.

Firefighters are expected to remain at the incident for most of the day.

Fire crews are asking people not to go walking in the woods and to stay away from the area until the fire is completely out.

Update – 02.06.2020 3:30pm

Due to the dry hot weather and slight wind conditions the fire is reigniting in areas of the wood.

Firefighters are working hard to tackle it but six fire engines still remain at the scene and will be there for sometime.

People are advised to avoid walking in the woods and to stay away if possible.

There is also smoke in the area so residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed until the smoke clears.

Three fire crews were called out to a woodlands fire at 4:20pm on Monday afternoon at Wharncliffe Woods, Woodhead Road, Grenoside, Sheffield.  A large amount of woodland was involved.

Firefighters have worked hard tackling the blaze and the fire is now under control.

The crews will remain at the scene this morning damping down.
