Firefighters tackle large blaze at Rotherham industrial premises

Update at 7am:

The fire is now out and crews left the scene at around 7am

Update at 4am:

Residents close to the fire on Aldwarke Lane, Rotherham are being asked to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to the amount of smoke in the area.

Residents are also being asked to stay away from the site whilst emergency services continue their work.

Some fire engines have now left the scene, with eight still in attendance.

Update at 3am:

10 fire engines and more than 50 firefighters are currently tackling a fire at Tata Steel on Aldwarke Lane, Rotherham.

The fire involves several thousand litres of oil, but crews quickly contained the blaze to one building.

All on site personnel have been safely evacuated and there are no reports of any injuries.

A high volume pump has been set up to help firefighters access water from an on site reservoir.

Crews were first called to the incident shortly after 01.00am on Thursday morning. Fire engines from Rotherham, Parkway, Central, Elm Lane, Edlington, Dearne, Birley Moor, Stocksbridge and Tankersley stations are in attendance.

Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for several hours.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin once the fire has been fully extinguished and the scene has been made safe.
