Fire at first floor flat in Wath-Upon-Dearne

Firefighters attended a fire at a first floor flat in Wath-Upon-Dearne this morning after a chip pan was left unattended while in use.

Two crews from Dearne station were called to Shawlands Court at around 3:15am and brought the blaze under control using breathing apparatus and hose reels jets.

The occupier of the flat, a male in his twenties, was not injured and was already outside the property when firefighters arrived.

Fire crews were unable to rescue a pet cat during the incident which sadly died at the scene.

No other properties were affected.
