Fire crews tackle Sheffield laundrette fire

Firefighters have been praised for their work tackling a blaze at a Sheffield laundrette.

Central and Rivelin firefighters tackled the incident on Boston Street shortly before 2am on Friday (3 August).

Flames from the fire broke a window in the shop, causing smoke to enter the flats above.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using hose reels, checked on the safety of the residents living above and used specialist fans to ventilate the flats.

It’s thought the fire started accidentally, with the self-ignition of warm folded bed linen the most probable cause.

Group Manager Simon Dunker, said: “The premises had multiple entry and exit points, so crews did really well to check on the safety of all of the residents and to quickly tackle the fire, stopping it from spreading to the flats above.”
