Fire crews tackle two kitchen fires in Doncaster overnight

Firefighters have attended two kitchen fires overnight both of which were cooking related.

Doncaster and Edlington fire crews were first called to a fire in a bungalow on Sheridan Road in Balby at 8:20pm. The occupant was already out of the premise when crews arrived. The fire was believed to have started at the grill.

The second incident was at 2:40am on Tuesday morning at Middleham Road, Cantley. This was a flat fire and again was due to cooking. Luckily there were no casualties at the incident.

Firefighters are now issuing the following safety advice around cooking.

  • Clean out ovens and grill pans regularly to avoid a build up of fat and grease
  • Ditch old fashioned chip pans, use oven chips or thermostat controlled fryers instead
  • Don’t attempt to cook if you’ve been out drinking, buy a takeaway instead
