Man dies following Doncaster house fire

A man in his sixties has died following a house fire in Doncaster last night.

Fire crews were called to Church Road, Denaby Main at around 19:10 on Sunday evening.

Firefighters from Edlington, Rotherham and Dearne stations attended and found a property well alight and heavily smoke logged.

Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued an unconscious male.

He was transported to hospital but later sadly passed away, suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

Fire crews made the scene safe and left the incident at around 21:40.

A joint investigation with South Yorkshire Police will begin this morning to determine the cause of the fire.
