Sheffield firefighters called to flat fire

Fire crews from Elm Lane, Central and Rivelin attended an incident on Firshill Close in Sheffield. Crews were called to the incident at 7:32am on Saturday 31 March. At 8:05am, all persons within the 3 storey flat block had been accounted for and firefighters were ventilating the property.

Upon arrival, crews found the ground floor flat of the property to be well alight. Using six breathing apparatus and two hose reels, firefighters successfully extinguished the fire. When the fire was at its highest, five fire engines were on scene. Crews fully evacuated the ground floor flat as well as the two other flats above.

Three casualties were taken to hospital with burns. Other occupants from neighbouring flats were also taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

A multi-agency investigation to determine the cause of the fire is now underway.
