Sound of explosions in Rotherham sparks fire service response

Crews from Rotherham and Dearne were called to the Rawmarsh area of Rotherham last night (Wednesday 21 November) after members of the public reported hearing explosions.

A number of calls, reporting the loud bangs, came in to the service’s control room – with people stating the noises were coming from the Rycroft Road and Thrybergh Hall Road areas.

Upon arrival in the area firefighters investigated further and found that the loud bangs had come from the ‘melting shop’ within the local steel works. Residents should be assured that this thererfore turned out to be a false alarm, with no damage or injuries.
