The sizzling Summer continues

Crews from Maltby fire station were called out to an incident on Saturday at 2:26pm on Bridgewater Way, Rotherham. On arrival, they found that a disposable BBQ had been placed in a wheelie bin whilst it was still hot.

Using a hose reel, firefighters extinguished the fire which had spread to the fascia of the house. As the warm weather sets in, and people start to enjoy Summer BBQs, remember to stay safe with the following tips:

  • Sit it on a flat surface well away from trees, shrubs and grassland
  • Keep a bucket of water or sand close by, just in case
  • Never use petrol or paraffin on a barbecue, only recognised lighters and starter fuels
  • Make sure the coals have properly cooled before disposal and empty ashes onto bare soil, not into the bin
