Discarded smoking material sparks fire in launderette

Three fire crews from Adwick and Doncaster stations were called to reports of a fire at a launderette on Arksey Lane, Bentley in Doncaster at 5:10am on Friday morning.

Firefighters found a bag of clothes and towels on fire. Wearing breathing apparatus they used a hose reel to quickly put the fire out.

No one was inside the property at the time.  It is believed to have been caused by discarded smoking material.

Crews left the scene at 5:45am.

Firefighters are advising smokers to:

  • Make sure cigarettes are completely out before disposing of them
  • Not to light up if you need to lie down. You could easily fall asleep, setting the bed or couch on fire
  • Keep matches and lighters away from children
