Garden fires warning after blaze spreads to shed

Firefighers have issued a stark warning to residents after yet another blaze caused by a garden fire which had got out of control.

A shed caught fire after a garden bonfire was left unattended in Sheffield.

The fire on Adlington Road broke out at around 10pm on Monday (15 August).

Crews also attended a bonfire involving tree cuttings on Edmunds Road, Worsborough Dale at around 9pm.

The fire had to be put out by Barnsley firefighters after it had got dangerously out of control.

Head of community safety Trevor Bernard, said: “If at all possible, don’t have fires in your garden at all. They can be a nuisance to neighbours and also put your property at risk. If you must have a fire, make sure it is sited well away from buildings, sheds and trees and never be tempted to use petrol or any other accelerant to get it going.”
